How did you learn to swap an ls engine

I'd like information on you learned how to do the swap, did you do it alone ? I'm specifically talking about the wiring as that's the part thay scares me like spiders.

Everything you need to know is on ls1tech.com. It's the same as any othe 64-72 A-body. LS swaps are cheap and easy! 🤣🤣🤣

You'll find out.

Yeah, I thought Summit Racing and Jegs had standalone computers to control an LS engine. Heck, you could probably even get it at Walmart.

They do, and you can.

There's a myth in the hobby that it can be done for like $1000. Yeah, right! 🤣🤣

I keep waiting to see the “standard LS swap” picture.

Wiring is simple... When you have a standalone harness, all you need to wire is constant power, key on/run, ground and your fuel pump. Holley Terminator X is probably what most ppl use right now, but Haltech is more advanced and should be coming out with trans control soon.

If you are wiring inclined, you can get a complete drop out with engine, trans & harness from a donor.
You only have to rework the power feeds & ignition circuits to adapt it,

You can also get a premade harness from someone like PSI conversions.
It only requires you to make a few battery & ignition connections for a relatively easy install.
The downside is the harness will set you back about $600.

If getting into engine mods, you can learn to tune the factory computer, but it is less user friendly than something like a Holley Terminator system.
Their stand-alone harnesses are rather easy & user friendly, but require more tuning effort than a take-out setup.

I've done all 3 versions & each has its benefits.

Holley also has some decent mounts, crossmembers etc.
My only recommendation is to try to get your brackets, mounts & incidentals from a single source, as there are many variables that cause compatibility issues... mostly with header fitment.

I did my firebird originally with a PSI harness & an LS3/T56.
Wiring was very easy & I bought a complete kit with headers, exhaust & mounts from a single source.
Tuning a factory ECM for a non-factory application was the worst part with mixing & matching parts/sensors etc.
A stock LS1 with an LS1 computer would have been very easy.

When I did my S10, I decided to cut in an existing harness to the factory ECM.
Lots of wiring, but was chosen because I was integrating everything into the factory wiring... something you wouldn't do with an older can with limited factory electronics.

Obviously, a lot more work & something similar you would do with a drop out wiring harness that needs modified.

My last is a more serious HP build that I felt exceeded the limits of a factory ECM.
I went with a Holley Terminator X for the best ability to tune & control a lot of auxiliary items.

Easy plug-n-play install but a lot more custom tuning as you are starting from scratch.

That's quite a task wiring an LS engine. I know you can get wiring kits here. I've never used their products though.
