Thanks Eric, It defiantly is a fun car to drive, I really like the rear wheel drive and sport driving mode. I had no idea these cars were that much fun to drive.

Yes the 6.2 had the 6 speed manual. The 2009 I purchased just has the automatic 3.6 256hp rear wheel drive with the sport mode transmission option. It was stored winters with 7900 klms.
Cheers Guys

The 3.6L is a pretty peppy engine, though not a muscle car, my Saturn Aura moves out quite well with it.

It does have decent pick-up my wife loves driving the car, the base caddies and camero's also have the same engine's. I like the look and handling more then anything about this car. Not a muscle car at all. Although I have heard the 6.2 has 607 hp with the 6 speed manual tremec tranny. That would be a blast to drive. Not many came over to this side of the pond thou. Mostly V6's sold here in Canada. Less than 3000 G8's sold up here according to the G8 forum. We are just happy to own one.

True anuff 415 hp I just read about it, I read on the G8 site that some guys had 607 hp in their V8's I'm a long way from any of those numbers but its a decent ride none the less. I have heard alot of timing chain problems (stretching) in the V6 engines have you had any problems in your saturn?

No problems at 86,000 miles. I don't know if it had to due with GM killing Pontiac and Saturn off, but I have a lifetime drivetrain warranty...didn't buy an insurance policy for it, it was advertised as such, and I printed a copy for future reference just in case.

I have seen several posts on the G8 forum with guys that had their timing chain stretch on them, they figure it was the supplier in 2008/09 something about the heat treat process was wrong on the gears and chains. Apparently their is 3 chains and shops charge upwards of $2700. for the repair. I have also heard lifters collapsing and the cams going around 110,000klms I hope our V6's hold up. I purchased an extended warranty that was offered at the dealership. It seems fairly decent up to 200,000 klms with no time limit I'm on the hook for a $100. deductible per claim so I hope to get my moneys worth if something should go wrong. I had a look at the Saturn Aura they are a decent looking car as well, I hope you have good luck with it.
Cheers Eric.

I ve seen the chain issues. On the 3.6 in the SUV it's not that it's a hard task , but you need to drop the subframe and the motor/trans out to get to them lots of hrs I did have a friend that could do them with it hanging half way out looked odd but he did them in like 4 hrs compared to the book time of I think 26?

That's good news. I hope I get lucky on this one. I can't keep my wife out of it she wants to drive it everywhere, so I'm sure I will have problems with it sooner than later lol.

Yep. I own an '08 G8 GT - Panther Black Metallic, bought new (I ordered it the first day they would take orders for it). It is a fantastic car; especially for the money. I have done no mods to it. It's my daily driver and I have had zero problems. I kind of wish I had waited a year and got the GTP with the 6.2 and manual 6-speed, though. At one point I had Michelin Pilot Sport 2s on it and it would really carve corners - way better than you would expect for a 4000 lb. 4-door.

I too would have much preferred the GT or GTP, however the price tags on them up here in Canada are still 33- 35k with too many miles on them. Most of the V8's were sold in the U.S as well , not to many made them over the pond here. This 3.6 does perform quite well as a base car for the $$$. I've seen some decent mods for the V6 as well in which I will be trying out over the winter months. The only problem is its putting my cutlass on the back burner for now, just because its a wicked car to drive. Much better than my 06 GP GTP.
Cheers guys.

I love my G8 GT. Just to set the record straight, the LS3 version was called the GXP, not the GTP. They were the only ones with the 6 speed manual and there were not many made, perhaps as few as 1,000 of the 1,829 GXP cars produced. No one really knows. The version Eric is driving in Ontario is the 3.6L LY7 engine, which is sequential injected. The base Camaros and Cadillacs use the 3.6L LLT engine, which is direct injected and a completely different engine.

Eric, enjoy your super cool car. They look like they are doing 100 mph just sitting there. I am at 115,000+ miles and going strong.

Matt
