i just couldn't let em crush it

i went to a local junkyard to pull out some 84 camaro seats and put them in my 83 cutlass when i found this jem. i said nice car and he said "its for sale for $400 and if its still here in the morning, we are crushing it" i was lookin at the back and i thought it was a ford pinto. when i walked up closer i noticed it said mustang II on the back. primer black and red inside. it used to be a red car. it has a 2.8 v6 and the 4spd auto trans. it has atleast 1 rod hammering but i drove it 16 miles to my house. brand new starfire SX5000 tires all the way around, new battery, new altantor and ignition module. the pacer chrome rims are in good shape. just need to be cleaned up.

Hey! A $400 car that drives on its own? What a score!
Now the Mustang 2 is just a different body on a Pinto chassis. But that in itself in not bad - they were good dependable little cars. Now the 2.8 does not have much potential, unlike the 2.3L L4. But again, it it drives, run it till it dies, then drop an Olds 350 in it......... It should have a 3 speed auto if it is stock.
Heck the price of the tires is worth what you paid for the car almost.
Great save.

heck, when the engine gives up you can put a 302 into it. the cobras and others were V8's so all the parts are around to do it cheap and easy. with a sbf in those they are fast and fun. for what you paid for it you can have lots of fun with it.

good score! it's funny how cars that did nothing for me 20 years ago are becoming cooler.. i see a king cobra package on it with a stick and hopped up small turbo motor of your choice so she's not nose heavy.. a little giant slayer! i do not see many of the current cars on the road now being worth saving in 35 years-

A stock turbo 2.3 four banger will bolt in and will add a lot to the fun factor. Add in a 4 speed and that posi WILL be a necessity.
Afterall, if a stock Pinto will do this............

Or, at least, a Pinto can't.

There's a local shop called 'forgotten pony' that specializes in those mustang II's - they do some pretty radical stuff with them. For $400, I'd drive that.

Calling that a Mustang was blasphemy.

Agreed, but they were cute little cars to run around in, and, as was pointed out, could be stuffed with pretty darn big V8s for those who wanted more smiles per gallon.

Also, let's not forget exactly what it was like to actually ride in an early 'Stang - noisy, slow (most had the straight-6), rough, poor-handling, and poor build quality.
These '64 to '66 cars were purty, but, honestly, they had very little else going for them.

I have a 65 Mustang Fastback. it is pretty but the suspension is one step up from a John Deer tractor and the brakes couldnt stop a go kart. it was a 289 v8 so on a good day it ran as well as my lexus with a bad plug. it is going back together with C5 Corvette suspension and modern engine and trans because I would rather drive it than look at it.

Yeah, they're cute little cars:

They're good cars for girls. Small, smooth, clean lines, pleasant to look at.

I'd drive one for the right price, but they're cute - they just don't have a Y-chromosome.
