68 442 with a 454 swap
4speed manual tranny, and it's a convertible. I need to get the gauges working and the starter wired up. And the wiring (because the people that my dad got it from made their own) is atrocious. I may need to shim the starter. When it was running it put about 520hp to the wheels. I'd like power brakes. Also any suggestions to improve it are greatly appreciated! And I'd be glad to answer any questions to the best of my ability!!!! Thanks!
The quickest way to lose a classic vehicle is the FUBAR wiring catching the car on fire.
Do yourself a favor, and strongly consider replacing the entire harness.
It's nearly half a century old, probably has bad connections that are oxidized and causing much resistance.
It's actually ALOT easier then you'd think if you take it in phases.
The cheapest option is an EZ Wire 18 circuit new harness. ~$200 for a new kit.
Then you just need a $75 kit of Weatherpack or Metripack connectors and a crimper.
Soldering gun, few strips of heat shrink, etc.
A better option is the American Autowire harnesses. Their diagrams are for newbies ....sooooo easy to follow!!!!
Go with what fits your budget, but I strongly suggest replacing the electrical harness to preserve your baby.

I am thinking of doing an all new harness just because I'd probably have to start from scratch whit the current wiring. any suggestions on how to go about finding a harness that will support the swap? If so where can I it? websites would be awesome!
Unless the alternator is now on the opposite side, wiring up a Chevy big block should be no different than wiring up an original V-8. Even if the alternator is indeed on the opposite side, you could just extend the alternator's harness, by simply adding on to it. In which case, you can go out and get an original harness. A Chevelle's harness might even work
Sorry to disagree but it's very different. The starter is on the opposite side, temp sender and oil pressure sender are in different locations, could be different alternator. Some have to be extended and rerouted. However it's not a big deal.
So it's been a while I know. I just started to look into the painless wiring kits and I was wondering which option would be best.
