1965 Chevelle brake system query
I am helping my son do a on frame resto. We currently have non power brakes with a single resv. master. He wants to convert to power and we are changing the front drums to disc using the Scarebird kit. Is converting to power ( adding the booster) a simple matter of bolting in the booster? I assume we will need a longer rod from the pedal to the master- where do you find one? donor car? aftermarket? Also wondering if anyone can suggest a distribution block for the changes or is a GM dist block a GM dist block?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Uses the same parts as a Cutlass/442 conversion. Joe has an excellent thread on this, let me see if I can find it and post the link.
I think you want to make sure the distribution block is for a similar weight car. Not sure, but believe I read somewhere that they do have different internals.

I just read back through your post and am not sure the link I added answers all your questions.
You can get the power booster from any 1968-72 A-body car. It will have the rod that attaches to the brake pedal. The brake pedal arm should have two different holes in it to attach to the master or booster. Whichever hole your manual brake master cylinder used, put the power booster in the other one. (Too many years since I've made the swap, don't remember which is in the top or bottom holes). Then either use the drum master cylinder with distribution block attached close to it, or replace with the combination piece (distribution/proportioning together) as Joe mentioned.
I'm trying to remember... there may be a different plunger in the booster for a power drum vs power disc. That's the rod that goes into the master cylinder. Depending on which master you use, be sure to purchase a booster for that one. Then there's no doubt that you'll have a matched setup.
If that didn't cover all your questions please let us know. John

classic performance offers some kits that use the stock drum spindles on your car to convert to disc at different cost levels , and even offer the spindles if you want to lower the car. They have a master cylinder / booster kit as well and the master has the proportioning valve built in it as to help simplify the running of the lines . 800-522-5004 is #.
