63 ninety eight 4 door with starfire engine

Recently purchased a 63 98 4 door town sedan. Engine has a starfire breather but everything I read says it was only offered on 2 door coupes. Was this a factory option or has someone switched the breather?

Here's a page out of the 1963 Olds brochure. Note the entry for the 98 at the top left. The standard engine was the 330 hp "Skyrocket," but the 345 hp "Starfire" engine was standard on the 98 Custom Sports Coupe and optional on other 98s.

Thumbs up

Thanks jaunty. New to the oldsmobile community and I don't know alot about them. I assumed it was the original motor and breather as the car only has 56,000 miles on it. Found it in an older woman's barn and I couldn't resist especially for the price.

Look at LH exhaust manifold. If the exit point is at the rear instead of center it is a factory dual exhaust installation. Also look at the engine numbers on left head between exhaust manifold and valve covers. If there is an "S" suffix on that number it is undoubtedly a Starfire engine.
