I got my 72' Olds 98 home today - rides great, runs great - I haven't experienced big block horsepower in a long time, so I enjoyed taking off and burning the tires off by accident. It needs alot of work but it is doable - Can anyone tell me if it came with a vinyl top or a hard top? Can't wait to get hub caps - just posted pictures

 

I don't know but I bet Olds64 can tell you. It doesn't look like it did. It is good to see you saving this car and not pulling the 455 out to put in a Cutlass. Welsome to the site and keep us posted. What part of the country are you in?

If it had come with a vinyl top, there would be metal trim where the roof meets the body to cover where the edge of the vinyl and body meet. These are cool cars, my dad had a '71 that I was fond of. When they imposed the national 55mph speed limit in the mid '70's, he commented "hell, it don't start to run till it hits 60!".

Appears to be a non-vinyl car. I think vinyl top cars had a textured rear window trim; that may have come a couple years later.

Look on the data plate underhood. A VT car should have CO8 stamped into it somewhere as provisions for vinyl top installation were done at Fisher Body.

Nice car...I do not think it had a vinyl top from the factory. But that does not mean you cannot add a vinyl roof if you want one.

Rocketraider is correct vinyl tops have textured rear window trim.

Like 1969w3155 said, if it had a vinyl top or even two tone paint job, there would be trim at the edge. It looks like the original paint and no touch-up spots where the posts for the trim clips would be.

How did the interior hold up?

 

congrats, cool car, I forgot how huge those cars were, the fender skirt can work as a door on most cars today.

 

thanks the drivers side front seat is bad and the hand pull things are bad.
