Headers for my 66 98.

I really want to have dual exhaust put on my car & can't stand the factory exhaust manifold design. Has anyone installed headers on a 98???

Notice how the steering linkage is behind the engine cradle?
Standard headers won't fit, you'd have to make your own headers, or cut the crossover pipe out and cap up the extra hole on the passenger side exhaust manifold.

duals on a 88/98

My Delta 88 is the same way..i tried a mainfold off of a 350 and still hit the steering column...even tried to use a grinder to shave it but i burned it right through.

With the Thornton Reproduction S manifold available to do a correct 65-70 B/C car dual exhaust installation, I don't understand why y'all don't take advantage of it.

You'll spend more than it costs trying to put headers on a car that was never designed for them or doing a half-*** job trying to make the wrong factory manifold work.

There is not enough of a market for headers for this car to justify development, so you won't find any. Custom built is your only option. Rear-steer by itself does not prevent header installation, as there are thousands and thousands of first-gen Camaros with rear steer and headers.

Since a 98 is really more of a cruiser than a race car, I also suggest the repro dual exhaust manifolds instead of headers.

see the "Headers" post topic in the "88" section. Same topic but in the other section. I have a "home brew" Toronada set-up on my 1967 Olds 98 with 2.5" pipes and a torque tube with Flowmasters. Pretty decent flowing exhaust. Ken

Oldsguy and I also modified a Toro manifold to fit his 69 Delta 88. It allowed true duals to be run straight back instead of both out the passenger's side. We cut the flange off of the driver's side manifold flipped it around and had it welded. If you get the S manifold from Thornton make sure you have the passneger's side manifold welded by a good shop. Putting a cap on it and pinching it off is asking for trouble and sort of redneck.
