Question 1964 olds 98 Speedometer cable

My friend and I recently removed the dust cap on the driver-side front wheel. We found a bent wire object so we looked in the original manual and it stated that it was a static collector for the speedometer. I looked around on the internet and found nothing useful. Any idea where I could get a new one or is it possible to repair it?

The static collector is not an essential part. Olds left them out in later years. It's really just a static suppression feature to mitigate possible radio static. The bigger question, since your title says "speedometer cable", is what about the speedo drive? As you know, your speedo cable is driven from the left front wheel. Those parts have been unavailable for decades.

Speedometer cable

It’s only the static collector that is broken no other part on the cable. Thanks for the help.

Then don't worry about it.

Hey thanks man!! I'm headed to our shop now to put it on the lift. Will report findings when able.
