Newbie ‘74 98 Regency coupe

Hello everyone! I am brand new to the forum. My life long best friend and I bought a 1974 98 Regency coupe 2 years ago and have had an absolute blast with her. When we got her she was in good drivable condition, and we are lucky enough to have a genius young mechanic only 4 blocks from my house. We have had a great many things rebuilt or replaced such as front end bushings, power steering pump, brakes, complete tune up etc. The old 455 starts right up and she rides like you’re on a cloud. We couldn’t have asked for a better find.

What we are having trouble locating are replacement side mirrors for the car. The original mirrors have the “joystick” control and they’re both shot. I wouldn’t mind going with manual mirrors if I could find them. My question is, has anyone replaced theirs, and or does anyone have a good vendor to recommend to us for mirrors? I searched here and internet wide but I just haven’t been able to find the parts we need. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the site, post some pictures of your car when you get a chance. A parts wanted classified ad may net you your mirrors and any other parts you need.

Welcome. I bet it's a cool car. Are the mirrors hazy or is the mechanism for moving the mirror remotely broken?

Welcome to CO.
The 74 Ninety Eight is indeed a comfy land yacht and a pleasure to float down the highway in. Those mirrors you're looking for aren't exclusive to just the 74 Ninety Eight. They can also be found on the Delta 88 and Custom Cruisers. I just looked at DVAP (Desert Valley Auto Parts) and they have a good selection of donor cars. You're lucky - the same mirrors were used from 1973-1976. Have a look at this link and you can select the brand and year you want to look at. Hopefully they have what you want. Welcome to the group... I have a few used mirrors, but unsure of application... If you post a photo of yours, I may be able to assist you... I do have NOS B-Body mirrors, but they are for 1980 thru 1990 and I doubt they will fit your 74...

Thanks for the welcome. They are both hazy and not working with the joystick. My plan atm is to remove one of them and measure the distance between the bolts. Then I will try to find a replacement manual aftermarket mirror with the same bolt pattern and length. I can move them manually now but they soon fall out of alignment and become unusable again.

Before you spend big money buying an OE part from a salvage yard consider repairing the mirror you have. You can get replacement glass online, you can also get adhesive mirror sheets in arts and crafts stores. If you disassemble the mirror there might be replaceable parts or adjustments. I know my 71 98 has a remotely adjustable mirror that also needs repair.

Jesse - that won't fit the 98 side mirror profile

This one will though:

Are you close to NOLA? Ever get your mirrors replaced? I have a 73 that does not have a RS mirror. I`m East of you in LA and might be interested in your old ones if they are not too bad . Couple of places in Southern Miss might have stuff for your 98. PM me . Thanks

Hey there and welcome! Please do not put after market mirrors on that awesome 98! You have a fairly rare car as the 74 98 Regency was the first year there was a coupe offered and there aren't many around anymore. I have 2 76 98 Regency coupes and lots of parts. I can probably come up with a set of mirrors for you. Please PM me if you're interested and check out my website too www.Regencyclassics.com

Thanks and keep that 98 cruising!
John
