1973 Ninety Eight Ignition Key

Hi everyone. First post in this forum, and it's on behalf of my Dad.

He has a 1973 Ninety Eight but has misplaced the ignition key. Just curious if pulling a door lock cylinder would reveal a key code that a locksmith could use to make a new ignition key, or if we need to pull the ignition switch.

Thanks!

Just have the locksmith come,to him. They can create the key without taking the car apart. Btw, locksmiths aren't cheap.

GM used the same key for the door lock and ignition through the 1974 model year, so yours should be the same. Unfortunately, at some point in there GM stopped stamping the code on the door lock cylinders. You can try pulling the door lock, or you can just pull the ignition lock, as that is guaranteed to have the code (assuming it has not been replaced). I can punch a new key from a code, probably for much less than a locksmith. PM me for info.
