I don't know what was used in 65 for 4-way flashers. Found this unused unit advertised for Chevy and installed it. Is it close?

I just found something like that, I think it is most of an NOS kit for pre-67 cars.

Yes, that is the switch part.

Commonly added to cars before they were required by law in 1967.

If it plugged into your turn signal harness I wouldn't worry too much about whether it was 100% correct appearance. Different GM Divisions had different *****, but yes, I think yours is correct for Buick and Chevrolet. Pontiac and Olds units I've seen had a chrome **** with lighted red jewel.


Flarestat was strictly aftermarket for years and then around 64 started making their units to plug and play with factory wiring harnesses. Before then installing one required splicing into the car's harness. I have a couple of those but always held off cutting wires. I found a NOS 66 Caddy unit that the plugs are the same as my 64 Starfire, so the Caddy unit will go in it someday. I can honestly not remember what the **** looks like on the Cadillac piece, but the bracket is chrome.


I know in 66 the bottom of the big car dash has a couple of drill spot dimples to left of steering column for Flarestat installation. Did your 65 have the dimples?

I found the dimples, but this unit wouldn't fit as the back hit the signal switch. (tilt w/corner lamps). I moved it left a bit.
The wiring would not plug into harness. The wires had a end that crimped into the existing wiring with a insulating cover. (sort of like a scotch-lock but older design) I removed existing wires and terminals from plug, soldered wire ends to original terminals and re-inserted in plug. Worked well.
Not concerned with originality, just wish it was fancier! Never seen an original Olds switch. Does look period correct however.

Oh, I had been watching for them, found complete period aftermarket ones in boxes, but asking prices seemed rediculous. Snagged this one for 33 bucks shipped.
