Hello from Czech republic. I bought this beautyfull 98 year 1964 convertible and I ´m searching where the frame no. and the
engine no. are located. Any help appreciated. Thank you
The car's metal serial number plate should be on the left front door jamb. The engine number is stamped into the left side cylinder head, between the valve cover and the center exhaust ports.
When you reference frame numbers, are you referring to the date code, part numbers and the manufacturer, like A.O. Smith, of the frame itself or are you looking for the location where a partial VIN for the vehicle is stamped on the frame? They are separate and are in different locations.

The total VIN will not be there in my experience. A partial VIN for some GM cars of this era is stamped on top of the frame along the driver's side door. You would need to clean the area and use a light and mirror in my experience. I have never looked for one on an Oldsmobile of your year and model, but a few members on here will have. Hopefully, you will not need to lift the body off the frame to expose it.

On my '63 Dynamic 88 the frame was stamped with the VIN in two locations.
The '64 should be similar.
It was stamped on the outside of the passenger side frame side rail , at the front and rear near the "torque boxes".
Regrettably the rocker panel covers it with the body on the frame
There is a small gap, so you may be able to see it with a light and a mirror. ( or maybe a borescope). Good luck.

This comes up a lot, particularly from folks in Europe. The officials don't understand that prior to 1968, there was no federal requirement to stamp VIN derivatives on major components. Olds did stamp the VIN derivative on the frame, but the exact location varies with assembly plant, and it's usually on the top frame rail, making it very difficult to find with the body in place (especially with 60 years of rust and undercoating). The engine and transmission unit numbers are not VIN-related, they are simply sequential production numbers for those components. If you have the Protect-O-Plate, it will link the engine and trans unit numbers to the VIN, but otherwise there is no way to prove anything.
