Hi all, new to the site/forum.

Two weeks ago I absolutely LUCKED UP and was able to purchase a 1978 Oldsmobile 98 Regency from the orginal owner complete with Certificate of Origin: purchased in feb. 78 in fort valley, GA vin: 3X69K8E141124. All for $900.

This car is by no means MINT, but it is as close as I could get for less that $1000 dollars. Feel free to check out by photobucket link below after this.

My thoughts:

Exterior: I couldn't ask for more really. Besides the awful color, its pretty much flawless. I've got onbe little crease dent in the passenger Door, other than that nothing ... I'm missing a light cover here and there, but nothing major.

IM pretty sure all the chrome trim is in tact (might have to double check), and the grill is money .... all original Hubs will pretty minor dents and dings considering age.

IM little at a handful of bondo and a paint job.

Interior: .... WOW. Again, other than the color its hard to imagine the side in this good of shape all original. Down here in GA cars like this get the treatment, and usually its either TERRIBLE or a redo job. Dash, console, glove face, doors, and seats are perfect, or damn close to it.

The doors have this crazy wod design that I've never seen, and the passenger door is missing the 'screw cover' peice of it. other than that they are all in tact.

The dash and panal look like they have never see daylight .... its crazy. The radio looks like it's never been touched, and works perfectly. All gauges work, thou the speedo jumps when running high. We think there is 103 thousand on the dash. The lasy said it started over one time, so im just assuming.

Engine: It's a 403 and it runs like a damn dream. I drove it about 30 miles the minute I bought it and it felt like I was riding on air. And later we found out the water res. had a huge hole in it, so I was running with NO WATER and it ran like a dream.

PLans: Well, engine wise Im keeping this thing original, just improving on whats there. I'm gunna give it a good tune up and replace a bunch of semi-cheap parts and then look to get some more power. I've heard that this 403 only pushed like 165 HP ... not enough

Cosmo .... well as much as I hate to redo alot of 'perfect' stuff, this color is not what I want. It'll end up being grey interior with a scarlet paintjob (go buckeyes!) with a grey top. I cant wait.

Welcome

Welcome aboard, Glad to have another Gawga Boy on board.

I need to come visit and pick up some peaches in Ft. Valley this summer. My favorite is Belle of Georgia but ya can only get them at the orchards cause they bruise if ya look at 'em hard. Not for shipping but the absolute best flavored peach there is IMHO.

I've been told that when Gawga red clay dries under the car, it's acts as a second undercoating.

Welcome to the site, great find like the price you paid. There lots of people on this site who can help you find stuff. The seats in this car look like living room chairs. Must be comfortable. Keep us posted on your progress

Definitely can't wait to see what you do to it. What is your longterm goal? Sleeper?

It's not that I want it to be a sleeper, but that just doesn't sound like enough HP coming out of a block that big

the only thing about the car that is frustrating is the color. It can't stay the same color inside cos it's terrible, so Im probably gunna spend a good bit of change to get it redone.

Yeah, thats true. Basically, if the bottom of your car is covered in clay, is cant rust .. lol.

Question! This is my first rodeo (my first ever 'project' car) so while I know what I want to do I dont know the best way to get it done. First question, I wanna redo the interior grey - is this gunna be a total redo job, or is there some magical guy that can dye my guts and save me a dollar?

I may have some of those handle screw covers here. Odds are, one of the tabs are busted off though.
I hate those things.
Poor design. If there was a set screw on the bottom, all would be well.
