Long story--beautiful 1957 Olds 98 Sedan, busted engine. Need new one or total rebuild, any advice? Engine currently disassembled down to camshaft.

 

There is no such thing as a new one. You may want to broaden your search to include 58 and possibly 59 if they are the same. I am sure a 58 probably is but I don't know about 59 and later. Somebody on here will speak up.

No, definitely no new ones, I should have said "another" or "a rebuilt one".

I know carburetion was different by 58 and I am pretty sure 59 is a different animal.

If all else fails--some have suggested (not on this forum) to put in a recent Chevy 350 but then it's not an Oldsmobile anymore

On the other hand, it's just sitting there not running.

 

371 are out there but good one are getting scarce. The problem with a used engine unless you know its history or feel you can trust the seller it could be more trouble than just rebuilding what you have, were talking almost 60 year old stuff here, not cheap to rebuild ether. How bad is your engine, is it complete and or rebuild able?

You might give our parts wanted forum every now and then a good engine will show up. Be sure to list your location, heavy items are expensive to ship as you know.Good Luck in your quest finding parts is it's almost as much fun as driving these classic nostalgia machines...Tedd
