Glad you got a few more years out of it anyway!

I am not experienced with these, so I'm afraid that the best I can recommend is to follow the diagnostic procedures in the CSM, and, since I believe that they require a special test tool at some point, have some junkyard parts around to swap in, for testing purposes.

Of course, troubleshooting the refrigeration part of the system should be straightforward.

If you have specific questions along the way, I may be able to figure out the answers.

I have a bunch of Comfortron parts, many NOS, if you figure out what you need. Or, I would make a great deal on the whole box.

Let me know if you have any interest.

In all honesty I also have never understood why AC was installed in verts.... There must be some logic I'm missing.

Because 100 degree hot air at 60 miles an hour for anymore than twenty minutes will cause your wife (read that as my wife) to melt down and make life miserable. I can handle one annoyance but not two..

Some day my car will be adorned with AC for this very reason....Tedd

Or driving in the hot afternoon to somewhere far away with the AC on and top up, coming home with the top down an a cool wind in your hair... Hopefully I will finish my AC work this spring.

C'mon Allan, this is simple! At least three reasons I can think of.

1. Manufacturers offered it because some people would pay for it in spite of the fact that they could also put their top down, so it was a source of income.

2. Not everyone who buys a convertible wants to have the top down 24/7 (except when it's raining). Some just like to be able to put it down once in a while on a Sunday drive or something like that but keep it up much of the rest of the time.

2. Every once in a while, convertibles have to be driven with their tops up on warm, humid, rainy summer days. I know because I've done it. When it's 90 or 95 degrees but you can't put the top down, it can very quickly get hot and sticky inside the car, and then A/C is a godsend.
