Engine rebuild

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have a 56 Olds 98 with the 324. I have a serious knock from the bottom end and in need of mechanical work. I am seeking a well established quality shop for this work. I live in the chicagoland area and prefer someone close since I will need to trailer the car to that spot. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Also was looking at possibly a crate engine to replace it but I know that will decrease the value. Can anyone tell me just approximately how much of a decrease that would be?

I also need a vacuum diapram for the wipers and a power seat motor. Any help??

I am being patient but losing them as I go along!

Thanks for your support and help in this.

Close to what?
North, south or west?
You'd save a lot of money by pulling the engine yourself, as you're gonna pay to have someone else pull it and store the body, while the machine shop does their work, which could take 6 - 8 weeks, depending on their backlog

I dont have the hoist or the tools to remove it myself. Im looking for someone primarily South or west side. Im in the South Burbs but not worried about travel if the mechanic is good and knows the 50's cars.

Soooo, where exactly are you located? City/State? If the engine was out, there is a local guy who is a "guru" on the "Rocket" {1949/1964} V-8's. His business is Ross Automotive, (330-544-4466) in Niles, Ohio. Niles is in between Warren & Youngstown,Ohio. Being into the 1965-1976 Olds engines I've never used his services. He is nationally known for being the guy for the early V-8's. Ross is his 1st name, last is Lombardie or near that. This would be my choice to have it done right, Ken
