65-66 98 power vent windows
When a 65-66 98 has power vent windows, what is the power source for the window switches? Is it just tapped off the supply to the main windows? Thanks for any help.
My vent windows are cranks so I have no experience, but I have 38 years or so across 2 big 66’s.
If I were to add power vent windows, I’d power them from the main windows like you suggest. And I’d use Packard 56 modular connectors like the factory. See the Auveco catalog from clipsandfasteners.com for the male/female contacts and plastic shells.
If the window wiring harness is in the car, you’ll need to tap with solder and heat shrink. If it’s out of the car, you may be able to find an unused connector or tap point where the factory would have put the vent window power. If you can find it, try to use the same color wire the factory did. If not, red would do the job. Match the wire gauge to the other window motors, this is a heavy amperage circuit you don’t want to melt.
The power windows & power seat are fed by a relay located behind the driver’s kick panel. If you have both, the fuse for the circuit should be 30 amps.
While you’re in there, it’s a good time to replace the window fuzzies and nylon rollers if any of yours are loose/broken. Also a good time to grease up everything and be sure the anti-rattle clips are on the door lock rods...
Hope that helps
