1993 Olds 98

Does anyone know the story on this top?
Was it rare?

That is a dealer installed top or aftermarket. As far as I know, the 91-96 98s weren't offered with a vinyl top from Oldsmobile.

Make sure the cooling system is in good repair on your 98. The 3.8l v6s used DexCool coolant and it has a tendency to gel and clog the radiator and water jacket. Unfortunately you can't change to traditional green coolant unless you rebuild the engine and swap the radiator/heater core.

That is a beautiful Olds!

One of our other members; Allan R, drove a late model C body 98 in the past. He speaks highly of them. I drive my 96 98 every day 70+ mile to and from work. I generally get 21+ mpg.

Does your Olds have leather or the supercharged engine? I drove to Houston, TX to buy my 98. Let us know if you have questions.

Those tops were often referred to as Carriage Tops back in the day. Senior Citizens loved them and they often were accompanied by gold trim. I referred to them as the Senior Citizen Package. They usually had a fiberglass shell that was installed and the top was installed over that. They were not cheap and I think cost something like $1,500 at that time.

Thanks for the feedback. Great information.
The interior is going to clean up nicely. It is leather.

I do not think the 1993 had Dex-Cool my 1992 does not. I think that started in 1995 or 1996.

If his 3.8l doesn't have DexCool that's excellent!

Introduced by GM in 1995.

Really Dex-cool is not the issue its the intake manifold gaskets. Change them and you are all set. Spend the $800 or so and do it. If the car is good it will rust first before the engine dies.

I've replaced the dex cool with green Prestone in two different 2007 GM cars and had no problems for several years now.

I like those wheels better with the paint/powder coating in the center and the polished trim ring vs. the satin aluminum wheels available on the 91-96 98s. It matches the padded vinyl top.
