1972 Olds 98
1972 Olds 98
I have a 1972 98 Coupe with around 45k miles. It's been in my family since new and is all original with a few problems. I.E. needs gas tank repaired/replaced, needs new heater core. The positives, interior is excellent and it has never had any body work. Roughly what is this car worth, I think it's time to sell it

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I have a price listing for 1972 Cars from GM. If you post the information I asked you for, I can tell you approx what the car would have sold for new. You can also check through craigslist or ebay to see what they are going for. Keep in mind that there's not a lot of demand for these big cars with the economy being the way it is, and gas prices not stable. You'll probably get lots of tire kickers who just want a cheap car for 200 bucks to drive around for a while till it's out of gas. If I lived closer, I'd definitely be interested. The 4 doors outsold the 2 doors by a long margin. Even with that, there's probably not that much interest in a big car. I would bet that you'll also get some interest from someone who just wants to salvage the engine/tranny and part out the rest.
Thanks for responding. I believe most of the documents are in the glove box and I do have a copy of the window sticker. Base price was $4,790 plus options of $1,249.29 for a total of $6,094.29. I've had an offer of $2500 site unseen, just not sure.
1. You have to find someone who is passionate about big cars, especially one with a big motor (ie: find someone rich) who is WILLING to spend money on it. Big cars like this are traditionally not that collectible.
2. Can you put aside your personal feelings about the car if you're going to sell it? It has to become just a car, no attachments.
3. Be prepared for what the market will bear. What you want may not be what the market will support. If you set your starting price too high, you probably won't get much except lookers.
To set a start point, you've got to list the vehicle options and show a lot more detailed pictures to establish the condition of the car. You've only got 3 pictures and they're general. Get at least 30 pics and include the little details that show how the car is a well cared for survivor.
2500.00 sight unseen likely means that someone is looking for a low mileage 455 / th400 and will part the car out for extra cash; OR they have someone lined up who is willing to buy it for a lot more.
needs gas tank repaired/replaced, hmmm, my experience with these models is the hoses going into the top of the tank deteriate (cracks.) Usually the car won't start without priming the carb, once started the car will run but it is probably sucking air also. Drop the tank, replace the old flexible lines at the top of the tank. might as well clean and paint the tank while it's down. Ken
