1969 OLDS 98 2-door questions

Can anyone tell me what power window and power seat switches will work for a 1969 OLDS 2-door convertible?? Is there another model in the OLDS line of that era (say 1968-1971) that will work in the stock wiring harness of my car? This car is in the final stages of a complete restoration and this is just one issue holding me up.

I believe these were pretty universal among the GM lines over a few years... I would check ebay.

Thanks for the quick response. I have been searching e-bay for over 2 years. Every time I find something that looks right; I do the "match-compatible vehicles" and come up with NOT COMPATIBLE. I have already spent over $300.00 on switches that won't work. Next step is to start traveling to salvage yards out-of-my state.
BTW: Nice Car!! in pic!!!!

What about improvising?

Take any switch that has the right actions and number of wires, make it fit your seat or other mounting location, by modifying as needed, and connect wires with butt splices or the like as required.

Also, you are depending on _epay's_ compatibility listings??? As entered by clueless sellers??
How about a GM PN Manual search for the correct PN for your car, then look for that same PN used in OTHER models and years. Then search the internet for a new in the box switch. Surely you are a member of wildaboutcars.com? They have a PN manual for your perusal I think. Maybe it was oldsmobility... use the Google.

I have '68 98 LS for parts, might use the same switches.

Thanks for more info. I have certainly thought about "improvising"; but first I want to look for the correct replacements. I just ordered a 1969 OLDS Shop manual and hope the GM part number appears somewhere in there. If possible; can I PM you a photo of the old (now missing) switches? If they are the same as your 68 will you be willing to part with them?

The Chassis Service Manual will not have the numbers.

You have to look in the Parts Manual.

As for interchangeability, the 98 had the window and seat switches facing upward, toward the sky, in the armrest.
Because of this, I believe that all mount differently than the door panel mounted 88s and Cutlii.

In all likelihood, your switches will interchange with all '68-'70 98s, and probably with '64-'67 98s as well.
I would also expect them to interchange with the C-body Buicks and probably Caddys.

First I would try cleaning the ones you have. One of the members here has restored window switches, door locks and many other things. Here's a link to his thread on door switches. His were on a 1972 Cutlass convertible. but the concept may be the same

https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...-switches.html

If that doesn't work would you post pictures of the switches your trying to match? I know I've got some from 1960's full sized cars and several other members here have parts from that vintage too. Also, create a new thread in the parts wanted section with a title saying "wanted, power window switches for 1969 2 door Olds 98" That will get the attention of folks who may have what you need.

Thanks John. I do not have the option of cleaning/restoring the old switches. The second shop doing the work (assembly only) LOST the switches along with the Speedometer and clock. Fortunately I have photos of the old switches and gauges. I plan on posting another thread in the parts wanted of this forum with photos. Any and all assistance is VERY much appreciated! I am almost finished with this project and its turning out better than I had expected.

Parts book says 68-9 8439-57-67 (8467= 98 convert) with armrest mounted switch are the same, but it also lists a 1969 2nd type switch for 69-72 8400, 8600 and Toronado. Parts book note says the difference is 2nd type switch has a longer pin to clamp the plug connector to the switch with an end nut.

So- an armrest mounted window switch from any 1968-72 Ninety Eight or Toronado should work fine.

Power seat switch- is it 2-way or 6-way?

6-way w/ armrest mounted switch- same from 1963-72, Ninety Eight and Toronado.

2-way w/ armrest mounted switch- same from 1968-73, Ninety Eight

Other GM C and E body cars from same years probably also carry the same switches. These would be Buick Electra/Riviera and Cadillac.

You ARE back-charging the cost of the replacement switches to the shop that lost them, right? There is no acceptable excuse for any auto shop losing parts from any car they're entrusted to service or restore- none. But I'll admit that's why a lot of parts are removed by and stay with me while a car's being done.

Thank you for this info. I had pretty much figured out that a Caddy or a Buick may have used the same (or similar) switch in their larger vehicles. I am trying to post some photos on the parts area of this site; but my internet from this location does support the bandwidth needed. Should have them posted around the 20th of May.
It would be difficult (if not impossible) to "back-charge" to the former company working on my car. That whole mess is now in ...............
Thanks!!!

It's a 6 way armrest mounted that I removed from a 69 sedan I stripped. They worked fine when I removed them 2 years ago. I can email you a picture if you like.
