1968 Olds 98 convt bottom panel molding
While driving last week, the left rear tire threads came off. The impact blew the fender skirt from its clips and this also caused the bottom molding to come loose. I was lucky, the AAA guy that answered the call to replace the tire went back on the exit ramp and retrieved the damaged molding as well as the fender skirt. See attached pictures. I have the following questions:
1. Will a body shop be able to straighten out the molding. Are new or used ones available. I checked ebay, but they have moldings that are installed aft of the rear wheels ( between fender skirt and the rear bumper).
2. The molding clips need to be replaced. Are the clips shown on the car the original ones. It seems they were riveted to the body panel. Maybe the original molding clips used the two 1/4" holes that are punched in the body panel.

I think your molding is toast, you may be able to find one on here with a parts wanted ad. Those are the wrong clips but do not know what the correct ones would be. How old are your tires? It may be time for a new set.

Thanks oldcutlass! I will place a wanted ad in the forum. Yeah the tires were original, might have been retreaded. I replaced all four. The tire installer showed me the mfg date on the old tires was 468.
