Power steering pump problems

I have a 67 cutlass with what was said to be a 68 350 olds motor. Problem is that someone put a chrome pump and pulley on it. Now none of the pulleys line up, and it throws belts all the time. My question is what pump can I go with, I don't care about the chrome. Someone tried to weld the p/s pulley on the shaft. Now it wobbles bad. The brackets look ok but what pumps will fit this motor. For instance a sbc pump ? Thanks in advance, Tim.

You can fit either a pre-'68 or a '68-forward pump, depending on your pulley and bracket configuration.

If they used the original '67 pulleys and brackets on the '68 engine, then you want a '65-'67 pump and brackets.

If they used the pulleys and brackets from the '68 engine, then you want a '68-forward pump, with '68-forward brackets (all the same up to at least '76, if I recall).

The actual pump is the same for all of these (though the pressure regulator valve changed in about 1970), and is the same across the GM line, but the reservoir is significantly different pre-68, and slightly different from some of the other GM ones.

The brackets, of course, are Olds-only, and you need to have the two spacers in the correct locations, or the pulleys will be misaligned -- See here.

Welcome to ClassicOlds.

Welcome. As Eric pointed out, all Saginaw pump bodies are physically the same, but the bolt-on sheet metal reservoir will be different. Keep in mind that older Saginaw pumps used the pulley retained with a nut. Newer ones use the press-on pulley. Post a photo of your current pump and brackets, as that will help us figure out exactly what you have and what is needed. FYI, the 67 330 motor and the 68 350 motor are externally identical, so either year pump bracket will bolt to either motor.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll definitely get a picture asap, probably tomorrow. This is really the only thing keeping me from driving it and it's driving me nuts. Thanks again and I'll post a picture soon.
