Hello everyone, have been considering converting my two speed autp trans in my 67 F85 over to 4 speed manual. Any help with parts interchangeability between 330, 350, 400 engines, front and rear mounts, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Good day to everyone.
1. Olds typically did not drill the crankshaft for a pilot bearing if the car originally came with an automatic. You will either need to pull your crank and have it machined or use one of the aftermarket conversion bearings. The latter requires you to trim about 3/4" from the tip of the transmission input shaft or to drill a non-critical clearance hole in the end of the crank. The latter can be done with the engine in the car but is not easy.
2. All 1964-1990 Olds motors use the same BOP bellhousing, however the 64-67 cranks use a different crank flange bolt pattern than the 68-up motors. You must use a 64-67 flywheel.
3. The frame-side bracket for the clutch equalizer shaft is welded to the frame on the 64-67 cars. You can get the bracket as a repro, but you'll need to locate it properly and weld it, or use a hydraulic clutch. The latter will require fabrication.
4. The Muncie and T10 transmissions are the same length as your Jetaway automatic. The trans crossmember stays in the same place. You can also use your current driveshaft, however the AT 'shaft is a two-piece concentric assembly with rubber isolators between the tubes. The four speed 'shaft was a one-piece design. The AT shaft will work, but it won't be correct. That's an expense you can put off to a later date.
I believe all small block cranks have the same specs. Yours is the stronger forged crank however. It has been said that all 403 sb cranks are drilled for the pilot bearing. This may be an easier find if true.
If you're pulling the crank out anyway, just have your original machined.
Thanks again! What size hole would have to be machined in the end of the crank to fit the pilot bearing? If I decide to stay auto, would the TH350 bolt to the 330 block and would the flex plate have to be changed?
