Smile Hello

Hello
Got a 1971 cutlass supreme convertible (copper color) with AC. I bought it in Los Anegles in 1985 (second owner with original pink slip).I live in South Bend ,IN. Car is clean but needs shocks ,springs ,and bushings .Motor runs but smokes a little when started .I need some heat and AC ducting and a new top, but no body off needed .It will never be a show piece but I hope to get it back on the road soon .This was a freeway slicer back in the day
Thanks
Jim

Welcome aboard Jim.

Sounds like you have a nice daily driver. You planning to do the work yourself? Most of it sounds pretty basic, except for the engine work.

The AC ducting you'll have to find a suitable replacement because that style of ducting is not reproduced and the old stuff has likely started to fall apart?

Don't forget to do the basic safety items like lights, brakes, exhaust, fuel and cooling.

Does your car look like this?

If it does you likely have the PNT code 62 A (Bittersweet lower with white upper). The really nice complimenting color for this paint is Trim code 979 (Sienna). You'll find that information on the cowl tag under the hood in front of the VIN location. What would be cool is if you have the SX package on your car.

Thanks

Hello again and thanks for the nice welcome from Oldcutlass,Huskarala, and Allen R.
The photo Allen provided is the same color as my car.To answer his questions ,an automotive tech school might take the suspension on as a project for the school, which would be nice .Thanks for telling me where to look for the #'s. My first car was a 71 delta with a 455 . My second olds was a 442 appearance package cutlass (burnt orange) with the factory mags ,unfortunattely I totaled this car ,I also had a 73 delta rag top for a while. In time I will try to post some photos
Thanks Everyone !!!

Letting a vocational school perform the work has its benefits and merits. Let us know how it turns out.

So is this 71 a 455 too? Look for Y79 on your cowl tag. That would give you all kinds of nice performance goodies on your car like dual exhaust, cutout bumper with trumpet exhaust and an L32 455 4bbl torquemonster. There would also have been SX badges on the front fender under the Cutlass script that looks like this (only produced for 70/71 CS):

The 'standard' engine for the 71 CS was a 350 4bbl.
