UK newbie!

Hi all.

My name is Jon from the UK. I come from Somerset which is near Bristol.
I have just taken ownership of a 1972 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale two door hard top in gold with a cream vinyl roof!
Car is in immaculate condition, and still has its factory paint, and most of the factory stickers still in place.
Just coming up to 42,000 miles. Was bought new in Ohio, and the owner moved to Florida in the early eighties. The car remained with him until he gave it to his son in around 2004. The car was then privately imported to the UK in April 2013 by the guy i bought it from.
The guy was having some financial issues restoring his house, so had to sell the car.

I had a few muscle cars (Camaro, Trans Am, Grand Prix) back in the late nineties when they were still affordable. I swapped my mint Ford LTD, for a 78 Camaro which had a 454 block put in it and was a complete animal. I was blown away by the performance and didn't check it properly. Turns out it had been crashed and fixed badly. It was also hopelessly rotten. I lost a ton of money on it in 2004, round about that time prices started to spiral out of control, and i was priced out of the classic American market altogether.
Its taken ten years until i can afford to get another rumbling V8.

I'm just about to turn 37. I love old school stuff and am a big 70's fan. I love action movies and rock music. I have two small dogs, a wife and a daughter. They all love the Old's.
Everyone stops to look when it comes by!

Look forward to talking with you all on here.

Welcome to CO

We have other Brit's on the site and they will chime in soon. Always happy to see someone young enjoying the older cars. Post some pictures of your new ride. We all like pictures

For most Americans, this ain't gonna help. Give us a city we've heard of! And even if anyone has heard of one or both of these cities, they probably couldn't, given a blank map of England, put their finger on their locations.

How far and in what direction are you from, say, London?

What you said would be like someone from central Illinois saying to someone from, say, Bulgaria "I'm from Mattoon, which is north of Effingham." Thus leaving the Bulgarian scratching his head!

Lol, Ok. Bristol is around 150 miles to the west of London, on the south west coast of England. Also, i'm around 30 miles away from Stone Henge.

Wait a minute. Isn't "Stonehenge" one word?

C'mon, a Brit ought to get that right! Especially one who lives a half-hour away!

Beautiful car.

I'd be surprised, though, if there were no other '72 Delta 88's in England. As noted by citcapp, there are a pretty good number of Brits on this site, and that's not counting all the other British Olds enthusiasts who have never visited classicoldsmobile.

Is it the Henge I'm viewing it from, or, is one light out, and then, in the next picture, the other side light is out? I have a 1970 Olds 442 and a 1989 Jaguar XJS V12 convertible. The Jaguar is a British car.

Cruise On Dude!

Hey Octanejunkie: Welcome to the Oldsmobile family and the Classic Oldsmobile Forum. There's lot's of great people and good information here for you!
That beautiful looking beast of yours must be a challenge to drive on the wrong side of the road.

I happen to own a 1967 Delta 88 Custom Holiday Coupe. I'm driving it to work in the morning. You have to keep an eye out for people in a hurry. There are a lot of red light runners in my area. Drivers around here (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) also don't know how to drive through the new round-a bouts.

Just a reminder to you Brits... These cars came with hoods and trunks, not bonnets and boots. We also put gas in our cars not petrol. And, don't get me started on tyres.

I hope you enjoy your new ride,
Cheers!
