1963 98 in New Mexico

Hi I joined this site because i just purchased a 1963 98 and i love this car but am having a hard time getting to stay running . It had ben sitting for about 15 years and would turn over but wasn't getting fuel. So i bought a new inline electric fuel pump and ran the line straight from a 5 gallon gas can. Fired right up and idled beautifully. Then it died i figured it was just cold so fired it up again with no problem. after about a minute it dies.If i give it gas it will rev up and then die. It runs longer at an idle.
I looked down in the carb and it was squirting a good line of fuel when i pressed the accelerator but it would stop squirting around the 4th pump. I sprayed carb cleaner down in the carb and now it always squirts fuel but it still dies. i have checked all the vacuum hoses and they look good i adjusted everything that i can adjust on the carb but it still dies. i drove the car a little ways down a driveway and on to a trailer and it kept stalling but did seem to work a little better after moving. Any ideas on what else i should check.
Thanks

Did you rebuild the carb? Did you check your timing and dwell? Does it have good vacuum?

No i really just bought the car yesterday and got it home so i will start going thru it now. I was just hoping someone might have a guess at the direction i should start in. It seems sort of random the way it dies.
Thanks for the response i will let you know which one it ends up being.
