Talking First time, Newbe

im happy to be on here. i have a 72 cutlass with a 350 rocket. I dont know much about cars and engines but I'm so eager and willing to learn. My plans are to tear the engine down and rebuild it. nothing special just to learn, repair anything that needs it, and to make the car look even more beautiful under the hood and everywhere else!! I am intrigued by throttle body injection; if thats worth it as far as improvements on gas as i will be driving mostly on the highway(i wouldnt be doing this myself, if i did it), but Ill get to that some other time. Again im happy to be hear and learn from other olds enthusiast!!

Remember oldsmobile run counter clockwise. Most other engines do not. I once had a chevy that I tried to time like an olds they run clock wise didnt work so well.

Welcome to the site westside807! I appreciate your want to learn on cars as I learned much about cars by messing with my '72 Cutlass Supreme.
Good luck with your project(s)!

Welcome! Glad to see another 72' here. There are lot's of cool stuff you can do with your car. Stick with a good carb for now. The fuel injection kits are a bit pricey and I have heard good and bad about them. They do improve mileage but based on how much you drive it will take a while to get your money back on the investment. Like the others said post pics when you can.

Good luck, have fun, share stories, pics and ask questions. This is a great site.

=========================

To be entirely correct, observer's point of view matters.

Most engines, Olds V8 included, run clockwise if facing the front of the engine.
Facing the flywheel end, they turn CCW

Similarly the distributor is GENERALLY but not always viewed from above- in which case Olds spins CCW and C-type spin CW. Viewed from below, it is reversed, of course.

One handy trick that works for ANY distributor which has a vacuum advance: follow the VA can into the distributor, then wrap around the distributor shaft... that is the way the rotor normally spins. Stick that into your bag o' mechanic's tricks [memory].
