New to site - 1971 Cutlass S

Greetings all. I recently came upon this site and decided to join so I thought that I would introduce myself. I became the second owner of a well maintained 1971 Cutlass S after buying it off of the original owner about 13 years ago. She was a little old lady who didn't want to sell it but had to because she was moving into a home.

The original colour is Antique Briar (brown) with a white interior. The original owner re-painted it some time before I purchased it and all I've had to do so far is put on new tires and a new exhaust. The car now has just over 90,000 original miles on the 350-4bbl. I've only put on about 7,000 miles as I've pretty much had it in storage for the last 13 years but am now starting to drive it and start to fix it up. Thankfully it is in pretty nice condition and I really do enjoy driving it. I have attached a few pictures.

Welcome to the site Aron! That is a sharp color combo you got working there. Best of luck with it!

Welcome aboard!
Beautiful car; cosmetically. One thing you need to look at though is the bushings. After 42 years they will likely need replacing.

What are your plans to fix it up?

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

Allan, thanks for the heads up for the bushings, I will keep that in mind. As far as plans for the car goes, at this time I think I will be mostly be doing some minor cosmetic work. The engine bay needs some detailing and the headliner needs some cleaning too as the original owner smoked in the car and it is a bit dirty. The driver's side of the split bench needs repair too as there are some cracks in it.

Aside from the cosmetic, I do need some parts. I need a front license plate bracket (I just brought the car out from Alberta and BC requires a front license plate). None of the wreckers around here have one so I might order one from Fusick. Has anyone from Canada ordered parts from them? How's their shipping? Also, I need to get a new windshield washer fluid pump and a new 'S' badge for the front end (when it was re painted someone ground off the studs of the badge and just glued it onto the front). I also want to get the factory 8-track player and radio working again.

I'll probably also want to get a bit more power out of the engine in the near future with some minor upgrades like headers (I hear people recommending Hooker 1 5/8" for the stock engine).

Other than the above, I think I just want to drive and enjoy it until It needs some more major work. Once again thanks for the welcome and I'll definitely be tapping into this great knowledge base!

Welcome, Nice looking Cutlass S. My 71S has the same factory color combination. I have never seen another Cutlass with this color combination. Mine was cheaply painted white before I bought it but all the original paint is still there.

Thanks Joffroi, there was a nice sunset so I went out to take advantage of it.

Thanks ScottM47448, ziff396 and OLD SKL 69. Scott I haven't seen another one with that combination either. Is your car still white with white interior? When I first went to have a look at the car I wasn't so sure but when I saw it, I really liked it.

Yes it still has the crappy white spray paint job on it, sprayed right over the original Antique Briar color. I bought the car a few years ago but due to kids in college it just sets in the garage, starting it occasionally. Hopefully someday I will be able to begin working on it. I will paint this car back to the original color after seeing the pictures of your car. Is there any way you could email me a copy of the first picture of your car so I will have something to work towards? If you can pm me.
