Hello from Auckland, New Zealand
Hi folks, I'm looking pretty closely at my first Olds - a 1978 Toronado Brougham. Looks in very nice nick, but being located in Florida makes going up to see it a bit difficult!!
But I've been reading up a lot on the 403, and it's pretty mixed at best.
Are these really such a problematic motor? They appear to be prone to overheating, oiling issues etc??
It must be said though that most of what I've found seems written from the point of view of modifying. Mine would only be a weekend/occasional cruiser, and would remain completely standard.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks in advance,
Craig

welcome, kiwi!
in stock form, the 403 is a fine, reliable motor. they did tend to run a little bit warmer due to their siamese cylinders, but you should have no trouble with it. just make sure the cooling system is in good shape, then you'll have no worries.
