I believe you are confusing 3D for 3B.

Hi jazz. Welcome to the site.
What Joe says is 100%. Why would you think it's 'strange'? What kind of car do you have?

49x115087
That should be a 1979 Buick motor.
4 - Buick Division of GM
9 - Model year uses the last digit of the decade it was produced in.
x - whatever letter appears here represents the production factory
115087 - This is the last 6 digits of the VIN the engine was built for.

As far as the transmission goes, I think you have the casting number there. I'm pretty sure the CDF is the foundry casting that did all these molds. Usually you can find out the transmission from the stamping in the governor cover on 350's.

If your block actually says "3D" instead of "3B" I would love to have a photo of that- I collect oddity info like that.

I suspect that after a thorough cleaning, it will say "3B"
