Newbie from Alaska

Hello Everyone. I have a 65 Cutlass 442 Convertible that I am doing a restoration. Looking to see if someone can answer my question on fenders. I am in need of front left side fende. Will a 64 work? Also does anyone have a 65. Thanks for your time.

Welcome to the site! I can't answer your question either. But I'm sure someone can..just hold out for a little while. Good luck with your project.

I just looked up the fenders in the 64-72 GM parts manual. Group 8.130 According to them, the 64 and 65 are different part numbers. I suspect that means they are not interchangeable. That wouldn't surprise me because back in the old days, GM tried to make each model year somewhat different than the previous.

Welcome to the site! The ridge running down the very nose of the fenders are different between the 1964 and 65. I've replied to your email that I have some extra fenders but it would be the weekend before I have time to take photos to send you.

just as John has said, the ridge on the top of the fender on the '65 runs to the front and curves off to the side at the very front. The '64 ridge runs to the front and tapers off in a straight line. The only thing will be the trim holes will be different. '64 trim is on the upper fender area, and the '65 trim is mid way of the lower half of the fender.

Here's some pictures of the body line that's different. The primer grey one is a 1964, the dark blue one is a 1965. If you swapped a pair its likely most people wouldn't know the difference, but as Gene said you'd need to change the mounts for the side trim and that could be a chore. John

I`m sure both John and Allan expected me to show up sooner or later! I am a `65 owner - 4 of them! Two coupes and 2 wagons, one being a Vista Cruiser undergoing resto first. If you`re interested you can find it under major builds and projects - `the 25 dollar Vista Cruiser resto affair`.
I wish I had more spare parts to offer but at this point I`m not sure what will be needed in the end. Post a few pics! I love to see another 65 on its way back to glory.

Well it took ya long enough..

(Minor Hijack)

BTW I noticed that your puter is putting ' marks that are French``like this and if you try to type a question mark it comes out like this É. A slash looks like this é so you try really hard to just have sentences that aren't questions in them.
Here`s how you get rid of that annoying problem. (so easy) Press CTRL & SHIFT together for a second, then release. Presto. Now you can type ? or / in Engrish.

I haven't figured out what I do that makes it go wonky like that either.....
