Newbie in Sarasota Florida

Hi guys:
I just joined the site and am happy to be a part this.
I have a 65 442 and will figure out how to put up some photos.
One of your members was kind enough to already have helped me with a question about a 68 442 that i'm looking at. (problem is I love all the 442 body styles - I know, its a sickness).

Just wanted to introduce myself - not an expert on anything - just love old muscle. I have a few others: GM's and Fords - 65 to 71 so far - pretty much old school original. Bigger garage is next.

Thanks for the welcome

Looking at your 67 makes me see how much work I have left to do. She is a beauty!

I'll get the photos figured out by the weekend so I can show you guys what im doing. Working on the A/C for my 65 442. On the firewall there are two pieces coming from the ac.

1. is the expansion valve;
2. the problem is above the expansion valve is some sort of vacum with diaphram and spring inside. There is one vacum tube going into the car via the firwall. I assume something going to the ac/heater control. Tested the diaphram and its shot. Ac will cool just fine and then this vacum valve blows and the freon is gone. We have an old time AC Delco distributor here in Sarasota and I'll go see him today to get this figured out. Then evacuate and load the ac system. (Pictures are indespensible with issues like this)

Welcome to C.O. There are a lot of guys here who also have older 442s. Some of the information you will find helpful will be in the Chassis Service Manual (CSM) and Assembly Manual. They can both be viewed/downloaded from the site "Wild About Cars" (http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/cgi-bin/register.cgi? ) you just have to join first - it's free and no obligation. Check out their Oldsmobile section. Also, there's another site you will love for 65 442. It's called www.442Bro.com

Welcome to site. Can't wait to see your 65 (that's what I had back in the day, one of the first in the area I grew up in).

Newbie 65 442 with mystery A/C part

Thanks for the help on uploading photos! Hopefully this works.

The A/C vacuum part that I'm looking for is shown (out of the car) and close up of where it came from (input covered in silver tape). One vacuum hose goes from "nipple" into car through fire wall. Symptom was, when A/C cooled, the mystery piece diaphram purged freon from behind the back side of where "nipple" attaches.

Thanks.

Michael
