324 x 1 on air cleaner

My name is Neal Hammack from Georgia. I am going to look at buying a 1955 Olds 88 Wednesday. On the air cleaner is stated 324 x 1. I do not know what this is . I understand cubic inches but the X 1??

Welcome Neal Hammack.

What does the air cleaner look like(large wide bat wing) that fits a 4bbl or smaller ash can looking affair that's on a 2bbl? It's been a while sines I looked at a 2bbl cleaner but the 4bbl cleaners don't have any mention of cubic inch displacement at all. This could be just be someones decal- lettering that has been put on it in the last 50+ years. Got any pic of it or the car? ...Tedd

The air cleaner is orange/red with a right and snorkle? coming out of it. It has a round center and looks like an early 64/65 mustang air cleaner belly? I know that I am not making a lot of sense but it looks like a pot belly stove with 2 legs??? I will know better when I get the car Wednesday. Thanks for responding. The car is an 88 with hot rod black paint and new red interior. I have nad a 70 w-30 and a 71 442 but never anything this early. I wanted a car that I did not hvae to do a lot to it-Hope not! I'll be back in touch with you and show you some pictures.-Thanks Tedd

As far as I know all stock air cleaners were a satin/flat black color and had no snorkels. Sounds like a interesting ride though. When you can give us a few pics, love to see it....Tedd
