New from California
Hello Oldsmobile fans! Found this forum a while ago and decided to sign up. Got my first car a few weeks ago, 62' Dynamic 88. About to redo the interior and put a new paint job on it. Can't wait till I can drive it!
Nice looking "88", but is that an original Door Mirror?
I'm building a '62 Starfire Conv. with Air, the same color as yours but after 22 plus years It's still far from being like yours...
Yes, it is. Interesting you brought this up....The car is all factory original inside and out except for plugs, wires, points, tires, shocks, you know the basic repairs. My dad bought it from the original owner in May 1965. The mirror may have been a dealer installed after thought?? It is a GM mirror, i took it off and checked it years ago- but the build sheet some cars had in the back seat isn't there ( i found out the Lansing plant almost always pulled them out before leaving the factory ) so its a mystery. Again, i have been around as long as the car has, so i know everything about it. I understand for most people its unusual to keep a vehicle like this all these years, but my father was probably the most finicky and passionate car guy i ever knew. He kept all of his cars like this one in perfect condition, always garaged. I have the protecto-plate and all the papers on it of course, but the buyer was 71 years old when he ordered/ purchased it for his wife. So i am lucky to know as much about it as i do. Oh, also my father paid $1,800 for the car back then.
Notice in the closeup of the mirror, it fits the contours and shape of the door. Also, the mirror is smooth chrome , unlike the restoration mirror that is brushed chrome. Anybody got any ideas?
