Missouri Newbie

Hello and Happy News to all!

I'm a newbie to this site as well as auto restoration. I've recently purchased a 70' cutlass convertible as a project car to work on with my twin 14 year old boys. The car seems to be in fairly good shape but still needs a lot of work. So far we've given it a quick tune-up and replaced the front brake pads and lines. I hadn't really planned on replacing the lines at this time but we needed to replace a wheel cylinder and one thing led to another.... I guess that's just a part of the process. At any rate, I'm very green when it comes to working on cars so I'm sure I'll be following the threads for information and advice. And, I'll post some pictures as soon as I get a chance.

Welcome to the site! A 1970 convertible is a cool project car to start with. The idea of Father and Sons project is waaaaaay cool

Lots of good information here and several people who've restored 1970-72 Convertibles so as the questions come up post them! We look forward to seeing pictures of your car. John

What are you going to do when they each want the car when it's done?

Thanks for the warm welcomes! the boys and I are all fired up and ready to dig into the project. Front brakes are done and just ordered parts for the back brakes. And to answer Jaunty75's question, the first boy with insurance and gas money gets to drive first

Agreed, we should schedule a weekend Spring time Oldsmobile gathering / cruise sometime.

Hey NorTown Olds,

I'm actually across the State from you. We're in the St. Charles area, but a nice top-down cross State ride would be a blast!

Ah, OK I gotcha! Yeah, we'll have to do a link up cruise or hit a big SHOW on your end or mine -- as soon as we get RID of all this Damn @#*%! SNOW though huh?! I've got SPRING FEVER BAD!! I'd love to hit "FastLane Classic Cars" out your way though; that's the best "indoor SHOW" goin'!

Take care, drive carefully in this snow & ICE!

Yeah, I understood you the first time --- I was referring to "70Cutlass" Guy...the one FROM Missouri..."The Show me State..." sorry for any confusion; this is a thread -- wasn't a personal note to you in Pa -- BUT if I get out your way or you get to Mo. definitely give us a holler and we'll do some Olds tire kickin' or cruisin' or something.

Take care and stay warm out there!

Haven't made much progress; too cold to work in the the garage and been busy with high school wrestling (103lb'r made State didn't place, but we had a great time at Missou). So, pulled the back seat out today and found a few holes in the floor panel on the LT side and back seat brace. I can probably pick-up the floor panel online at Yearone of somewhere, but not sure about the panel that the back seat rests against.

Any suggestions..

I just noticed this thread and some of the comments about cruising in Missouri. This summer the Archway Olds Club (St. Louis) is hosting a Mid-Missouri Olds show June 3,4, & 5 at Lake of the Ozarks. The exact location is at the Tan-Tar-A resort in an air conditioned exhibit hall. I'd upload the flyer for the show, but it exceeds the size limit for this site. I'll provide details a little later in a separate post.

Meanwhile, try this link.
