I stumbled upon this neat site while looking for info on 1980 442. I know these were low production. Courious how many Black ones were t-top. Anyone care to speculate on value for a weathered one family car with wrong motor needing full resto?? Thanks for your time.

Post the VIN numbers and someone with the books will tell you what you have, thats a good place to start. There are a bunch of us single digit old phart typers on the site, so your not alone.

It is a one family car with original title. I'm sure it is a W30. The engine is wrong---oil filler 0240778, block cast 395558 2, machined pad 30 M 208169, and head 6. I think this is a 1970 350. Any info on this engine including lame humor will be appreciated.

Welcome and hello from another Texan. There are several of us here in the DFW area. Where are you located in NE Texas? I have always liked the 79-80 Cutlasses and yours is a 442. It appears to be a very rebuildable car and still has the original wheels which is a good thing. With a warmed over 350 this will make a very nice street car. If you want it to scream, put a 455 in it which is pretty much a bolt in.

According to the Old Cars Price Guide, the 442 was an option package on the Cutlass Calais for 1980. In #4 condition, which means it runs but needs full restoration, the OCPG puts the value of one of these at $1800. I don't know what having the wrong motor will do to the value. My guess is lower it in the eyes of someone wanting an original car, and raise it in the eyes of someone wanting one with the engine that's in it.

I don't know if you can find production information down to the level of which ones were a certain color or had the t-top.

I can tell you that total production of all 1980 Cutlass Calais's (all were two-door coupes, 442 or not) was 26,269.

I'm in Texarkana, the car came from OKC area. I'm not looking to build it (too many projects) just trying to get an idea of value. Doesn't seem to be much info out there about this model. Thanks for responding.

Welcome! You are right, the '80 442 isn't that common to begin with, and it seems there are very few of those left. I don't believe there are any production figures available to tell you haw many were made, let alone with particular options.
In 1980, "W30" was the option code for the 442 package. It was only available on the Cutlass Calais model. It was only available in 2 color combos, white & gold and black & gold, so it looks at a glance to be much like the previous year's Hurst Olds, which I believe is intentional. And like the '79 Hurst Olds, it came with the L34 350. In fact, in 1980, the 442 package was the only way to get the 350 (gas not diesel) engine in a Cutlass.
I'm guessing that your engine may be original. Check the 30 M 208169 number. If the 208169 matches the last 6 of your VIN, it is indeed the the original engine.

Interesting to note:
It is commonly thought that after '71, any 442 package was just an appearance package. Simple not true in 1980.

Wmachine his block casting number puts it as a 68-76 casting, not the 77-80 casting so his assumption that he has a 1970 engine would seem to be correct.

Rollback I wouldn't worry a whole lot about that not being the original engine. I don't know that the value of those cars will ever be what the early one are and you have a better engine now on top of it.

X2. I didn't check the engine number, so I guess that would be a real surprise if the VIN *does* match, huh?

This is a car to have and keep for all reasons other than $$ value. Personally. I think there are better reasons than $$ value.

I have to agree with you on this. I had a 80 supreme years ago and I had a BLAST with that car. I wish I would of had the money and space to keep it at the time I sold it. I only got rid of it because I had a fresh running 455 in a 70 cutlass and I just didn't have the extra coin to give it the love it needed. Man I miss that car.
