About to be Starfire owner.

Hi guys and gals
I ll be picking up the 65 starfire I've been considering for the last week.
It will all happen hopefully on saturday if I can arrange a truck to pick it.
You will see me asking heaps of questions as i go over the car and become
familiar with the mechanical side of things.
Cheers

Welcome. You know, I always wished I'd joined CO before I bought my Oldsmobiles. I hope you've been lurking and doing some research before you pulled the trigger.

Any questions before the deal is finalized?

Thanks
I ve posted a couple of times asking a few questions.
The car is in very good condition except for a few things not working like the aircon
and some basic parts needing replacing.
Its a 60yr old car and I understand it will need a certain level of maintenance
to keep it in good condition.
Im quite pleased the seller took my offer.

A 65 will generally be easier to live with than 61-64 because of the 425/Turbo 400 drivetrain.

If it hasn't already been done, disconnect the tailpipes from the side exit exhaust and route them out the back with turndowns a little behind the bumper lower edge. Doing this saves the collectors, the diecast chrome side trim, and the rear bumper. All of which are Starfire specific and near impossible to find good replacements.

Don't freak out over the engine oil drain plug. A 1/2" drive ratchet will remove and install it.

Which wheelcovers does it have?

That is a very nice car. The whitewalls need a little scrubbing but the paint looks great. Just a little elbow grease is all it needs.

Beautiful, what a conversation piece. So many superlatives to date.

Its full on profile view is perfect, and best of all, it sits so well. And how neatly the factory duals are tucked in.

Yes that's a 66, In Hemmings 65/66 write up. But the body and stance is essentially identical. Only differences are in trim.

The top comment on Curbside sums it up with a bow on top.

"Lincolnman
Posted August 3, 2016 at 1:07 AM Great story. I remember riding in a new ’65 Starfire loaned to my Aunt – it was the smoothest, most quiet car I had ridden in up to that time. Made a real impression I can remember to this day."

Best of luck with her.
