Brand new to Forum

Hello everyone
I’m from Victoria BC and I have a 1972 Cutlass Supreme Convertible , 455 automatic. This car was stored for many years and I’m attempting to resurrect it. Happy to belong to such a supportive group.

Cheers Perry

Welcome to the group, Perry...always great to see another islander here!

That car looks familiar, did you source it up around Nanaimo or Parksville?

Welcome, Perry. Just up the road from you, at Sproat Lake. Car looks nice! Love to see more pictures.

Where did you find it?

I think this may be one I looked at in Port Alberni a couple years ago...someone in the Nanaimo area bought it and had it listed a few months ago.

If it's the same car, it's a solid project. I think the asking price when I saw it was around 15 or 17k and I passed on it as I already had the '70 project well underway and didn't need another project car.

I seem to recall body and paint looked good, roof worked fine, etc. Lots of potential I think.

Not bad if it's an actual U-code. Thanks!

Ha, ha ….. you have pictures of my car! Yes it’s from Parksville…….small world. It’s a bit of a 3 dressed up as a nine! ( Trooper reference ). I got it last year and swapped a truck for it. As you know……..it’s an original 72 body with a 455 / 400 dropped in. So far new cooling system, water pump, radiator, hoses and everything else. New brakes, rotor, pads, drums, lines, proportion valve..the lot. New BF Goodrich radials.

Lots of leaks……but that’s a project right. The engine seems to run strong.

Maybe you know more about it than I do? Would be happy to hear…..the last owner did not have the entire history……he also swapped something for it.

thanks for posting.

I don't know a lot about it, but the owners when I looked at it had owned it for quite some time and did most of the work. Older guy, downsizing or no longer able to work on them (I talked to the son). I think the quarters were done professionally. They had been building it to drive and enjoy but you know....life.

I don't recall any red flags, just a lot of little things that were going to need taking care of...I saw it in May or June 2023. Exhaust pipes tight against the floorpan, headers looked like King Kong played with them, engine bay wiring was all over the place. I think the driveshaft was too short...check it for end to end travel. If it's too much, I have the correct driveshaft for the 455/TH400 combo in a Cutlass.

I think you're going to enjoy it...hopefully we'll see you on the road in the spring! Any questions or need help don't hesitate to reach out. I've got some parts kicking around including a bunch from a '71 Convertible.

It’s nice to meet you ! I’m new to Oldsmobile lingo, but i believe the engine & tranny came from a later Olds, not a 72. The rear bumper doesn’t have cut outs for the muffler which I believe may be part of the “U” package. I don’t have a lot of info for the car, I believe I’m the 3rd owner….the original owner passed away and the owner I bought it from didn’t have a ton of info.

its like a treasure hunt!

Yep, I refrained from mentioning the EGR and J heads after the first U code mention before yours. Guess I shoulda gone ahead and said something then.

Sorry about that, but I commented before engine pics were posted. And prior to swap being mentioned.

That statement indicated to me that it was a U code. Not a stretch when it was a common option.

Either way, nice car Perry.
