'71 Cutlass Supreme

Hi all, newbie here looking for info/knowledge. I hope this is the right forum, so forgive me if not. My Dad bought his first brand new car in 1971, a Cutlass Supreme. He swore the first car he ever got to buy brand new would be an Oldsmobile, and that's what he did. It was "Burnt Orange" with white vinyl hard top 442 w/ 350. I don't have any pics yet, my parents haven't been able to find any yet sadly, tho they do exist. I've recently gotten back in to scale models, and wanted to recreate his car as much as possible. I bought a 1971 442 W30 kit that I found, tho it's different than what my Dad had. His wasn't a W30 model I don't think, and didn't have the air scoop hood or stripes on the hood or the sides that I recall. I guess my question would be the differences in the scale model version and what my Dad had. For example, did every 442 model have 442 on the side, vs Cutlass Supreme? How about on the grill? As far as paint goes, I've seen the '71 paint should be Bittersweet Mist, but also came across someone that mentioned their color was Kashmir that looked like a burnt orange color. I believe he had colored mag wheels that matched the car but were colored mag wheels only on certain versions? His had a bench front seat, rather than bucket seats and sienna/burnt orange interior.

My apologies for all of the questions, but looking for wisdom and knowledge, so any help is appreciated.

Some of your information is jumbeld.

In 1971 the 442 was a different body style than the Cutlass Supreme (assuming both were hard tops, more on that later) and no 442s came with a 350 engine until the 1972 model year. There is also the Cutlass S, which was based on the same "fast back" body style as the 442 hardtop, and some people mis-interpret the "S" as meaning Supreme, which it does not.

The 442 body style was the "fast back" and the Supreme was the "notch back". The exception was in the convertible, where both the 442 and Supreme used the "notch back" body style.

A Cutlass Supreme would have "Cutlass Supreme" emblems in some areas and "CS" in others, and a 442 would have "442" emblems in all locations.

So just to recap Kenneth's key points:
1) No 4-4-2 with a 350 in 1971.
2) No 4-4-2 was available in the Cutlass Supreme notchback bodystyle.

I'll also add that 1971 was the last year the 4-4-2 was a standalone model. In 1972 it reverted to optional status. As it was by then largely a trim and suspension package, any V-8 from the Cutlass line became available.

In 1971 you could purchase a 72 442 with a 350 from August through December.

Yes, but could you get a '72 model year 4-4-2 with a 350 in that time frame?

Thanks for the replies folks. I was able to get a couple of photos my Mom found. Not sure how much they will help, as they are not at a full angle, but perhaps this might be of some help? I could have sworn the car had sienna interior, but it looks like white seats in the one pic. Maybe my memory isn't what I thought it was. ha!

Welcome. The car in the photos is a Cutlass Supreme. While people have put 442 emblems and grilles on them, they never came from the factory that way. Here are all the models and body styles Olds sold in the 1971 model year. Each one of these had a unique VIN.

Thanks for all of the replies folks, it's been very helpful. I could have sworn it was the sienna interior, but it looks like it was the white, which I think is called "ivory"? Would the floorboard have always been black when the interior was white or could it be different colors?
