Going to look at a '58 Super 88 Convertible this weekend

Hi! Hopefully I'll be frequenting this site more often and soon.

The story: I've got a truck for sale ($4900) and a guy calls wanting to trade his '57 belair 4 door. It's been stored for 20 years and straight but needs restoration. He sent pics and I'm thinking it about a $3K car so I let him know that I'm not really interested.

The twist: He calls back the next day and says he'll "throw in" a '58 Super 88 Convertible if we trade straight up. NOW he has my attention. I was unable to get pics of said car, only his description which I will just spare you because seeing is knowing.

We plan to head over there tonight and if all goes well I could be coming back with 2 cars. I've already decided if the '58 is in restorable shape it will stay and the '57 will go.

58 was a very unique year for Oldsmobile. Personally, I like 59 better but 58 has it's high points. Hopefully it isn't a rust bucket. Post pics when you are able.

Welcome to the site

The convertible would be cool. A guy in our OCA clube has a hardtop with side lakers and its slammed to the ground looks nice.

Smile hopefully

hopefully the 58 is in good enough shape to restore plus the bonus of a 57 belair. The Belair is a car those chevy guys look for so you should be able to sell it without too much trouble and have some dough to fix up the 58. here's hoping everything goes good for you.

Welcome to CO and here's hoping you will soon be an Oldsmobile owner.

Well we drove all the way to Tulsa Friday night with my truck on a trailer and the guy backed out. He had what he said though, both cars had obviously been in the garage for 20-30 years. The Olds even has an extra engine, front clip and a bunch of other stuff. It's a pink '58 convertible with a/c and 2bbl carb. Floorpans had been poorly replace 20 some years ago but the car is SOLID.

I think my Dad is considering buying one or both outright but I will definitely share the guy's info so these cars have a fighting chance to see daylight. My guess is he'd take 3K cash for either one.

I took some pics so I'll try to get them up tonight.

I hope you didn't drive too far. I would be all over that guy like ugly on an ape if I drove more than 30 minutes with a trailer to buy a car just to have the owner back out.
