I did not know this was the first place to stop at for a quick introduction. Howdy, my name is John from Lowell, Indiana and I am the second owner of a 1966 Cutlass, 2 door coupe. I posted this question earlier and I got some great feed back and pictures. I wanted to refine my questions before placing an order for new rims/tires. I am converting to four wheel disc brakes using "The Right Stuff" as my vender. I am upsizing from 14 inch tires to 15 inch tires. Will a rim that is 15x8 with 5 lugs that have 4 3/4" spacing and a back-space of 4 1/2" work with tires that are 245/60/15? I just want to make sure that this setup will not rub in anyway. Thanks again for your input.

I am not familiar with The Right Stuff automotive, but I do have a disc brake 4 wheel conversion on my 69 Cutlass from CPP. My car definitely had rubbing/contact issues between the inner rim and brake calipers on the rear. The rims were Oldsmobile SS 15 x 7s. A pair of spacers did the trick till I went with the current aftermarket aluminum 15 x 8s on rear. The problem as best I can remember was with the factory rims barrel and its additional metal and where it was situated....

So this is the tricky part, 15s are close no matter what. But my current rims don't have this issue because they are built differently.

In addition I owned a 1966 442 with stock brakes, but put on over-sized rims and tires 15 x 7s and 235 60 15s IIRC. Unfortunately I don't remember back spacing. Front tires made contact on inner edge of outer fender when wheel was cut all the way. Rear had no issues. 245 60 15s will fit with ease with proper backspacing, on rear.

 

I would upgrade to 15”x 8"with 4½ back space wheels, I’m running 245x60s and 275x60s. Change out all studs to no less than ½ longer.
