ignition Help/Advice 58 371

Hello,
My dad and I are getting his old hot rod running. It is a car he had many years ago and now he wants to get it running. it is a 58 371 w/ 2 four barrel carbs. It currently has a Mallory YC250C Distributor on it with points and we would like to upgrade it to an electronic ignition was hoping to find a whole new dist. , coil etc. but have not been successful as of yet. I know I can get a conversion kit but was hoping to update the who whole thing. Thank you for your help.

David

Welcome to Classic Oldsmobile....I don't think you will find a modern HEI distributor to fit a 371, Just not enough demand and I'm not sure if a Pertronix module will fit in a Malory. My best advice would be to call Malory, they would know for sure. I think whatever you have now a coil will run a Pertronix or if you are afraid of its Just butjust buy a stock coil for a 371.

By the way there is nothing wrong with a points system. There is no loss of power and hay they been doing their job for over a century, not much bling factor but they work. PS we need pic of the hot rod... Tedd

Thanks Tedd, I appreciate the warm Welcome, Nice Car, I will See if I can find a Pic.. This Car it's unique as my Dad calls it a Fordmobile, it is a 1950 Ford, with a 58 Olds 371 in it. He had the olds back in the day and took the running gear, ie engine and trans from the Dyna 88 and put it in the Ford and it has been a while since it has run.. so we are working on getting it running. I have been on him to get it going and here we are now. Thanks again...
