1979 cutlass supreme 5 speed

I just got a 1979 cutlass 5 speed can anyone tell me more about this car , has Rebuiled motor with less than a 1,000 miles the guy put a 307 Rebuiled in it it runs nice everything under the front end is new , I haven’t decided if I will keep it or sell it I’m probably going to paint it first

Welcome. That trans is the Borg Warner T-50, which is probably the only five speed that is weaker than a T5. For this reason it was only offered behind the Buick V6 and the Olds 260 V8. The 307 is a powerhouse compare to the 260. Good luck with it.

In other words, don't beat on it unless you want to be buying a new transmission........

Was the car a factory five speed? Since the engine was changed maybe it also has a different five speed trans. Keep fresh high quality fluid in it and don't push it hard.

Joe, Is the T-50 the same trans that was in 76' Starfire? I had one with the Buick V-6 and the owners manual advised to add a 90 degree pipe fitting to the fill plug and top that with extra fluid while towing. Wasn't clear on whether they meant towing a boat/trailer or while the car was being towed by an RV etc. I added the fitting, towed a boat a lot and never had a problem.
