is that exactly how the numbers look on the plate??

looks like a porcelain white car originally.

sebring yellow would be a double dash special order code

Thanks for the response. That is exactly how the tag reads. The only trace of old paint I have found is in the top well , and it is yellow.

Remove a door sill plate. I'd bet it's still the original color under that. And if not, just lift the carpet a bit. You'll see the remains of the original color unless it was a full body-off restoration. Then I guess you might be out of luck.

I removed door sill and kick panel all the evidence is yellow. Is there any way to look up those paint #s? Are they unusual?
Thanks, Rich

No offense, but can you post a pic of the tag?

70-34467 is a 1970 442 Convertible

E is the Linden NJ plant. 272 is the basic production sequence--a low number indicating an early build date

TR 979 should be saddle colored buckets
926 I've never seen a second 3 digit trim code here ,and this one isn't in my book. Others with more experience may have more information.

99568. I've never seen a 5 digit paint code before. Assuming the last 2 digits are the paint color, that would be 68, not a listed color in 1970. The top color A is white.

10B is your build date--2nd week in october (early, like the basic production sequence number)
A31 is power windows.

Hope this helped some. I have to say I've never seen a cowl tag quite as elongated as the one in your picture, but that may just be my inexperience.

Thanks for the help. The tag is regular dimensions, it is just the angle that I had to take the picture at, with the hood on, distorted it.

That is one very strange tag. I can only guess the oddity has to do with it being Linden built.

I'm not finding much different that you, Cameo.
E is the VIN code for Linden, but the Body Tag code for Linden Should be "BL".
All of the "926 99568 A" is a mystery. I'm not so sure the 926 is a second trim code, either.
Need to dig deeper!

Actually, 68 was Cinnamon Bronze Poly in 1970, which was a Toro-only color. Curiouser and curiouser...
