hi to everyone im here for help and to learn as much as i can about my car. my dad gave me this car a year after he found it as a birthday gift. any way i have to do all the research cuz i know nothing about the 1958 98 and im looking for any kind of help. here is are the photos as i got the car it starts but with lots of help. i would like to know the original color, trim, options anything would help thank you

thank you all for the very helpful information. yes it runs but i will do an over haul the fuel lines are plugged, tank needs cleaning, carb will be rebuilt, will need to cut out some of the floor in the rear (rust) and front. so as it sits im looking for floors parts and then strip sand blast so looks like a long project but im okay with that. dose any one know where i can find the Trim 331 = Ivory leather seat bolsters , Charcoal pattern cloth inserts , Silver vinyl seat accents , Charcoal vinyl upper instrument panel , and Ivory Hi-Gloss lacquer lower instrument panel . whom sells it or a pic so i can make it.

the one thing i am missing in this car is the radio and im wondering if this car came with the crazy pull out radio i saw at the car museum a month ago. i know it had one but i dont know which one, a regular am or some other option like the pull out or the 45 player (my dad had on in his 63 tbird it was factory and ive seen them in Cadillacs). any one know how i can find out? currently there is a vacant spot.

Check Ebay, they come up every now and then. I believe that removable radio might have been a one or two year only option.

When it comes time to redo the chrome hang on to your wallet there is more chrome on a 58 than most any car built. They had the nick name the King of Chrome back in the day... Keep us posted on your progress.. Lost in the fifties ....Tedd

 

yes the chrome $$$$$. i do know that ill have to re chrome the front and rear bumpers (one quote for 360 each to 475 each just for bumpers) the steering column dash peddles fins also chrome and a lot more it also has equal amounts of stainless steel which ill be cleaning my self cuz its stainless and very forging.

To the OP , note the difference in part numbers in 58 & 59 .
Make sure you are getting the right radio . The radio brackets are different too . And a '59 radio may not fit your car .
The part number of the radio should be on a paper tag on the outside or inside the radio . IF.. it isn't missing after 60 years!

That is a great price! It's a little rough around the edges but it looks rebuild able.The re chroming price quoted on your bumpers is fantastic. In my area and on my car I had over $3000 invested for the front and back and they were pretty good shape starting out. That's California for you... Tedd

 

Man, I would jump on that radio. You also can set up a search on E-bay for your car parts and get notified as they appear. You just have to use a - sign to eliminate the junk.
That price for chrome is good for what I have seen. The price of re-chroming has kept me from doing it.

 

Welcome to the site. Seems to me that the 58s' are few and far between. Another place to consider looking is Amazon, just type in 1958 Oldsmobile and see what comes up. got a paper shop manual for $61.00 (used) but in real good condition. I found out from experience that the CD manuals, although pretty good, don't do justice to the photos for clarity in the paper shop manuals. Best of luck on your restoration.

 

Not an authority on these, but thought the difference betw the 58 & 59 versions was for 1959 they added a lock after experiencing a high theft rate of the 58 versions?

 

What a beauty!! You're very lucky to come across a coupe --- especially as a gift. I wish you luck with it.

Consider keeping those bellflower exhaust tips ... they're a very cool 60s period mod, great conversation piece, and not too permanent.
