I once owned a '63 Dynamic 88 convertible. Have always thought the '63 had clean, sharp, good looking lines.

Makes me want to sand the paint off my car and park it outside for a couple years.

 

Welcome. The forum is a wonderful source of information. Another is the 1963 Oldsmobile Service Manual. If you plan on keeping the car, you should get one. Read and understand it. It will make your hobby more enjoyable.

Welcome. I love the custom interior. Definitely not something Lansing thought up but it does speak to the car's desert heritage. Cosmetically, the car needs a paint job at most, although you could opt to preserve the patina with a clear coat. How is the car mechanically? I hope it runs and drives as good as it looks. Be sure to make your presence known on the "Darkside" thread. There are a lot of fans of larger Oldsmobiles who hang out there.

 

Thanks to all for the welcoming comments. Yes, it runs fine, I might have a look at the timing but it made the 90+ mile journey home in traffic and p***ing down rain a few weeks back with no problems.
I was assuming a re-paint was needed. I haven't looked at the clear coat options. Some of the paint is flaking and lifting and the surface rust is as far as I'd want to let it go but I'll get some opinions from a paint shop.
She feels a big car on UK roads but those raised corners really help. Overall I'd say the driving experience is much better than I was expecting, she doesn't creak or groan over bumps, turns in nicely, kicks down and feels quite lively when pressed. Everything works and nothing leaks. All the dash trim etc is all present. I assumed that would be hard to source if it was missing so I'm glad she seems complete.
Overall I'm absolutely delighted with my big Olds!

 

Nice car . I have one almost like it.
Please...paint it . You'll be glad you did . This "patina" thing is a line of crap .
It's just a cop-out for people who are too lazy to do a proper paint job .

Right on the money Charlie.

With properly adjusted brakes, suspension in reasonable shape and a set of modern radials on the wheels, there is no reason to fear driving on the UK's roads in a car like yours.
When you take it out in good weather look out for other cars getting close so the occupants can take cellphone pictures!.

X2 on painting it properly, I agree with Charlie. Word to the wise, do a complete check on the brakes and suspension.

 

if you want to improve the driving experience immensely i highly recommend fitting a rear sway bar in it. i did on my 66 dynamic and couldn't believe the difference,jc

 

I have to disagree. Some cars look good with patina. What I don't like seeing is "faux tina." When a car is painted to make it look like it has patina. There is a truck painted this way that frequents the local cruise-in. It's a cool truck but...

Of course, an owner can do whatever he/she wants with their car. If the OP wants to repaint their car then great!

I always suggest folks inquire about taking a local vo-tech class to do the body work and painting themselves. It's much more rewarding and more reasonable than paying someone else. That's how I painted my 71 98.
