Question New to site, and have tons of questions. My name's Josh. Any help is appreciated.

I bought a 71 cutlass/442..about two years ago when I was 15 for $1000 from a guy who needed money bad..it's pretty solid for a Michigan car. Vin came up as a sport coupe..but it has 442 badges on it..and I'm nervous it may just be a cutlass. How do I tell? I'd like to find the build sheet but the interior has no carpet and I'm not sure where to start..it's got front disk brakes and and automatic on the column..and idk what engine..and I'd really like to find out!

Please help!

The 442 emblems are meaningless, as there are more "Faux-Four-Twos" on the road now than Olds ever built. More worrisome is if the VIN really is for a Sport Coupe (fourth and fifth characters of the VIN are "77" for a Sport Coupe and "87" for a Holiday Coupe). The car in the photos is a Holiday Coupe, NOT a Sport Coupe.

You got a running car for $1K. You should be happy, not nervous. So what if it is a Cutlass and not a 442.

Embrace the hobby Josh!

If the VIN says "Sport Coupe" and the car is a Holiday Coupe, he should be VERY nervous!

If the VIN doesn't match up with the car, then you have yourself a parts car. Even at that it was a good buy.

With the "S" badges on the sails, I'd go out on a limb to suggest it's a Cutlass S. Can't really see anyone retro fitting those?
