What kind af carburetor do i have?

Hello again.

I try to find out what brand and model my carburetor is. The only numbers i found on the side of the carb is 2770 and 2916

I would be very pleased if someone could help me find more information about the carburetor. (watch the pictures)

many thanks

Look those numbers up in the edelbrock catalog. Looks like an old edelbrock carb or an old carter carb which is the same as the edelbrock from a design stand point but just newer and re branded with a few modern touches. Most likely an old carter carb.

It looks like a Carter AFB.

Today i took the carb of the engine for a closer look. And you were right, it is a Carter AFB. The numbers i found on it is 2J3 9635S. So i wonder what those numbers stand for. I did some googling but no answer them yet.

Then i notice that i have damaged the pin that makes the fuel goes in the carb.
It is nolonger straight. So when i push the gas is doesnt pushes down the hole, it bends forward instead. Watch the picture. My guess is that i have to replace that pin/pushrod thing. I think it is a plastic pin or something. What do you call that? Sorry about the poor explanation.

Unless the carburetor is original to the engine I think buying an edelbrock carb might be cheaper than a rebuild and its essentially the same thing.

The plastic pin is called the accelerator pump.

Here is a kit for your carb:

That looks like excessive wear in the bore of the airhorn where the pump shaft goes thu. You may not be able to get the accelerator pump to work tight even after an o/h.

hi all again. I was thinking to buy a Edelbrock performer 600 cfm 1405. from a friend of mine. But is it gonna fit on my intake? And how is my engine respond with that carb instead of my Carter carb?

Let's back up. The carb you have is an aftermarket Carter AFB that was retrofitted to your car. The die cast adapter plate is a tipoff that this is not the original carb (which would have been a Quadrajet, since Olds never used an AFB from the factory. The electric choke is also an indicator of the aftermarket AFB. The Edelbrock carbs are just re-badged Carter AVS carbs, which are air-valve versions of the AFB. You can rebuild the one you have, replace it with an E-brock, or get a correct Qjet for your application.

I'm guessing this carb is on the 70 Cutlass in your picture? If so the car originally had a Rochester Quadrajet carb, which is a spread bore. Your intake shows how much bigger the secondaries are. You have to make sure the carb you buy is for a spreadbore. Most are not ( primaries and secondaries are the same size).

The AFB is not a spreadbore, which is why you see the adapter plate in the photos.
