Tim from Ohio
Hello ladies and gentlemen.
As you may have gathered, my name is Tim and I'm from Johnstown, Ohio. Recently moved to Johnstown as of last July from Westerville...a full 20 minutes away. But those 20 minutes moved us to a much more rural area where we went from a .19 acre lot to 1.5 acres. I also went from a bi-level house with a two-car garage to an attached 28 x 28 with two other out buildings as well. I'm a big Buckeye fan and that didn't start with their National Title win.
Anyhoo
I recently acquired my '69 442 clone from my best friend who bought the car in Akron as a Cutlass S in '95. I'd like to decode the tag if possible and get more details on the car. We spent a little over a year doing a frame-off on the car which included rear quarters, lower fender patches, new top, 350 engine, tranny, suspension, new top, and paint. If memory serves, he painted the car in '94 Dodge Viper Red. After a few years of him not having much time to enjoy the car, and the restoration starting to show it's age, and other misc items in the garage getting knocked into the car, he asked it I would be interested. I cannot tell you how excited I was to purchase the Olds from him since over the last 19 years since it was restored, I spent a lot of time with the car. He offered me the car at such an amazing price, that I honestly felt like he was simply giving it to me. Lesson here, help your friends with their projects when they need it, and they will likely not forget your efforts.
As the car sits now, there are a few items that need some attention:
-lower pass door was filled and is now cracking and pealing off the door skin
-hood was dented when his garage attic door fell onto it
-all four windows are off track
-tranny pan is leaking
-gas tank spout was leaking at the neck joint (was patched with JB Weld)
-fuel sending unit float non-functional (gas level is a guessing game)
-speedo is off
-BFG Radials are same age as restoration
-pass side rocker is starting to show some rust
-turn signals are non-operable
-seat covers cracking significantly
-pretty loose steering (already researching Jeep Grand Cherokee steering box swap)
-driver's side front drum "catching"
-lots of blemishes / scratches on driver's side due to being in garage around bicycles, mowers, and other misc items making contact with the car
For all of those items, the car is just a joy to drive and share. I'm ecstatic to own this car and cannot wait to get into addressing the issues listed above. Hopefully, I can learn more from the wealth of knowledge that is on this site and continue the journey the Olds began with my buddy.
These are the only pictures of the car I have so far (day I bought it - last Saturday) after I got it home and washed it right before the rains came.
Looking forward to getting to learn and get to know some of y'all. Also, hoping to make it to the Anderson's show this summer.

Hey Tim!
Nothing there that a Binford 4844 Power Rotisserie wouldn't cure. Ar ar ar ar ar....
BTW, if you post a pic of the cowl tag and the VIN it's easy to decipher.

Tim, that tag has certainly seen better days but it's still mostly decipherable
ST69 - 1969 model year
3 - Oldsmobile Division
36 - model: Cutlass V8
67 - body style: convertible
LAN - body produced at Fisher Body Works Lansing MI
BDY 157171: Body number assigned by FBW. This number is not related to the VIN.
TR 940 - Black interior
PNT 61 B: Sable lower body, with Black vert top Note: there was no red color option in 69 for the Cutlass on the regular color palette.
10C: Time Build date. Oct (10th month) 3rd Week (C) of 1969
Your VIN should start out 336679M(123456) The numbers in the brackets are just placeholders. Yours will be specific for your car and will also be part of the engine and Transmission stamping number derivatives if the car still has the original engine / transmission.

Thanks for the info Allan. I remember the original paint on this car and may go back to it originally. I'm pretty sure the red that was used in '96 to paint the car was '94 Dodge Viper Red.
